THURSDAY OCTOBER 8
featured a
FREE OUTDOOR CONCERT
with A MUSICAL
TRIBUTE TO
DIZZY GILLESPIE & CHANO POZO!
Dizzy Gillespie
Chano Pozo
Latin jazz
history was made when trumpeter
“Dizzy” Gillespie, already a
dazzling and controversial musician for his contribution to the then new
music known as "Bebop" brought Cuban percussionist
Chano Pozo into his big
band in 1947. The music they made during before Pozo was tragically killed a
short time later helped launch the fusion of American jazz and Cuban
music first called “Cubop”, a fusion still explored and
reinvented not just in Cuba and the USA, but all over the world!
It was the
best straight ahead Jaaz we've ever had with
selected students, faculty and artists of the UTB/TSC Jazz Bands,
local Jazz guitar master
Clay Moore
& his Frontera Jazz Quartet,
trumpet virtuoso
Dennis Dotson
and WORLD RENOWNED trombone maestro
Ron Wilkins!
