In order for you and your colleagues to take full advantage of the opportunities this event has to offer, and to showcase your performance in the best way possible, we have made this list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) which we hope answers most of your doubts. If not, please feel free to contact us by phone or e-mail us directly.
What musical and other equipment will be available at the show?
Your act may include no more than two songs or numbers and cannot exceed a total of ten (10) minutes TOTAL! That includes the time it takes you to get on stage plug in, perform and gracefully step off stage. We expect your instruments to be perfectly tuned before you get on stage. During the sound check you will all get a Performers Lineup with the exact time everyone is expected to perform, the length of time allowed for your performance, and the interval between one act and another.
Because we have to put on at least 11 acts, the schedule will be tight and we will make every attempt to shorten it even more. You'll be introduced by the MC so don't make any comments, dedications or introductions to the audience, just stick to your performance. As mentioned, you will be expected to move in and out of your positions on stage in a quick but graceful manner.
Yes – all acts, except the dancers, must be present for full sound checks to be conducted at the venue from 2:00 to 5:30 PM on the afternoon of April 13. This includes dancers and solo vocalists. This is NOT a rehearsal, it's a sound check but it is CRITICAL. Be prepared to stick around for a few hours. If you don’t attend the sound check you will not be allowed to perform – BE THERE!
A complete lights and sound system will be in place. It will include: two Peavy guitar amplifiers, a Hartke bass amplifier, plenty of microphones, monitors, a grand piano, an electric keyboard and a full Yamaha drum kit. Do not bring any of this equipment, you will not be allowed to use it. There will be a sound technician mixing monitors on stage. We may consider special needs you informed us of in your application submittal.
To the show and the sound check, you need to bring all personal instruments and accessories other than the equipment listed earlier. By “accessories” we mean your own music stands, guitar picks, drum sticks, light percussion instruments, congas, timbales, etc. Special effects boxes for electric guitars may not be allowed.
The bio we asked for must be read in less than one minute. If its longer we may trash it altogether or introduce you as best we can before you go on. The MC reserves the right to expand or reduce your bio, depending on the timing and flow between acts.
Yes, look your best.. it's Showtime! Coats and ties are not required unless you think it's appropriate.
During the actual event, all performers in your group must be present and signed-in backstage at least one hour before your scheduled performance time. If you or anyone in your group is late, or cannot be found at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time to perform, you and your entire group may not be allowed to perform at all. As soon as you arrive, go directly backstage and check in with me or a designated STTC manager. REMEMBER... the show starts at 7:00 PM sharp!
You may park wherever you wish in the area but the best choice is in the parking lot directly behind the Jacob Brown Auditorium… right by the backstage doors. Sorry we can’t pay for your parking, it costs $3.00 per day.
Once you finish your performance you are expected to vacate the backstage area as soon as possible and come watch the other acts. We expect all performers to go on stage for a final “bow” to the audience at the very end of the show, so stay close to the stage near the end of the show. We will have a seating section right in front, stage right, reserved for performers only – no friends, family, etc. Don’t forget any of your belongings backstage, you may not be allowed back in! If you have equipment, you may take it out to your car through the backstage door, then come back in the same way and go directly to the performer’s seating section. Do not carry your stuff in or out the auditorium front doors!
We will have half-priced tickets available for friends or family of the performers. You’ll be able to buy these tickets during sound checks on Saturday afternoon only.
We will have sandwiches, sodas and similar stuff available at the venue… after the sound check. This is for showcase performers only, not for friends or family.
U.S. Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz will be there with Helen Hernandez, President of the Imagen Foundation, a Hollywood based organization seeking to promote Hispanics in the entertainment industry. We also expect representatives from the film and television industry, the record industry and other truly important persons in showbiz.
We expect reporters from TV stations and newspapers in the Valley!
Yes, but we will tell you at the sound check when, where and to whom you can give these materials.

All showcase performers are strongly encouraged to participate in Saturday’s Entertainment Industry Workshop taking place in the morning at 11:00 AM. There's another workshop taking place in the afternoon but you’ll be at sound checks – this is extremely important! At the workshop the panel will talk about the business aspects of the entertainment industry and will take questions from the audience. Invite anyone you know that is interested… it’s free. Seating is limited, however, so show up early.
As I am sure you realize, our guests come from a very sophisticated entertainment environment. Let’s not disappoint them… come well rehearsed, stay perfectly sober, behave courteously and professionally at all times and, most importantly, during your performance, “kick ...”, as they say!
