The STTC South Texas 2002 Talent Showcase

It was a night to remember!  On April 13, 2002, BSPA partner, the South Texas Talent Commission (STTC), showcased eleven acts representing the best of various Classical and Popular music and dance categories including: Ballet, Classical Piano, Classical  Guitar, Opera, Ballad, Conjunto, Mariachi, Rock, Alternative, Funk & Salsa. 

We hope to have a pictorial on the STTC's 2002 Showcase very soon. VIP entertainment industry executives from Hollywood’s Imagen Foundation were present at the Showcase and held free workshops on the business aspects of the entertainment industry. Click here for lots more on the STTC!

Adam Del Monte Flamenco Concert

As part of Brownsville’s first UTB/TSC Guitar Ensemble Festival, BSPA was pleased to present, in a partnership with UTB/TSC’s Guitar Studies Program and the South Texas Classical Guitar Society, Spanish-born Flamenco artist Adam Del Monte.

Adam dazzled the audience at SETB Lecture Hall!

Perfecting the art with his father and the Gypsies of Granada's Sacromonte region, his cutting-edge style incorporates Flamenco, Classical & Jazz. He’s performed at prestigious venues such as the Teatro Real and the Ateneo in Madrid, the Manuel De Falla Auditorium in Granada, and the Mark Taper Forum and the Ford Amphitheatre in Los Angeles! Sticky Fingers - A Rolling Stones Tribute

SATURDAY - March 16, 2002

Recognized as true talent by the music world, the five members of Sticky Fingers excel at providing an authentic, look-alike, sound-alike show for fans of the Rolling Stones. NBC News called them "...the premier Rolling Stones Tribute Band. They really have the devil by the tail".  The Sacramento Bee said: "Sticky Fingers… Wow!… What a show. This is a fun band.  If you love the Rolling Stones, do not miss them."

The Macedonia Mass Gospel Choir

The Macedonia Mass ChoirIn a tribute to Black History Month, the BSPA presented the awesome, big-time sound of the Macedonia Mass Gospel Choir! As predicted, they nearly brought the house down! Wow... what an experience!!!!

Led by Minister of Music Gary Givens, this world-renown 50 member choir featured AT LEAST seven lead singers and a strong instrumental backline, electrifying our audience through inspirational Gospel and Traditional Choral Music. They've delighted their audiences at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in San Antonio since 1936. The ultimate mass choir, they’ve earned widespread recognition as “...one of the greatest collections of Gospel talent ever assembled in Texas”.

Monterrey Chamber Orchestra

FRIDAY - January 25, 2002

8 PM at the Jacob Brown Auditorium

The BSPA was proud to present the Monterrey Chamber Orchestra (MCO) in a fantastic classical music program featuring Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s "Symphony No. 40 in G Minor", "Estampas Nocturnas" by Mexican composer Manuel M. Ponce and the "Classical Symphony" by the great Russian composer Serge Prokofiev!  Click the underlined links to learn more about these great composers! 

Their quality performance confirmed the MCO as the finest orchestra in northern Mexico!  The MCO is directed byWolfgang Amadeus Mozart 1756-1791 Felix Carrasco who graduated First Honors from Vienna's famous Hochschule für Musik and has conducted close to fifty orchestras worldwide.  Many of the MCO's members are European and are part of the larger Orquesta Sinfónica De La Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, the internationally acclaimed, Monterrey-based, symphony orchestra.  Click here for more information on the Felix Carrasco and the MCO!

Ruben Romero's Christmas Flamenco Show

SATURDAY - December 15, 2001

8 PM at the Alonzo Building

510 E. St. Charles, Brownsville

Distinguished guitarist Ruben Romero and his entourage from Santa Fe, New Mexico, put on a stirring performance of Flamenco guitar and dance for a full house at the beautiful Alonzo Building in Historic Downtown Brownsville. He was accompanied by noted dancer-choreographer Catalina Rio-Fernandez, director of Flamenco Nuevo Mexico, her partner Angelica Quintana, singer-guitarist Miguel Soto and percussionist Joseph Rodriguez . BSPA was proud to produce this event in a partnership with UTB/TSC Patron of the Arts and the Gorgas Science Foundation!  Ruben Romero and Catalina Rio-Fernandez held a workshop for Brownsville's own Flamenco dancers and guitarists.

The show was very well attended, the crowd response was outstanding and the overall lights and sound production was of the highest quality ever seen in Brownsville.

5th Annual Brownsville Latin Jazz Festival

Click for Eddie Palmieri's biography!The 5th Annual Browsville Latin Jazz FestivalFive-time Grammy Award winner Eddie Palmieri headlined the 5th Annual Brownsville Latin Jazz Festival with a Concert at the Jacob Brown Auditorium on Friday, November 2nd at 8:00 PM.  During a music and dance filled week, almost 30 Latin Jazz bands and dance troupes performed throughout Brownsville! 

Check out the CALLE 54 Film website!!!Besides great live music, a special feature of this event was the first film shown in the Capitol Theatre in nearly 40 years, CALLE 54 a Miramax film by Fernando Trueba with performances by the top Latin Jazz artists of our time. The showing of this exciting film was made possible through the efforts of BSPA's newest partner, the CINESOL Latino Film Festival, whom we greatly respect and to whom we are very grateful!
